Watercolour practice, with a photo as a reference.

I plan to enter a certain comics-contest, so I'm exploring several colouring techniques to use over the lines....which is pretty hard - I've been doing only black&white stuff for years (which had a result of me literally thinking in monochrome) and my digital-graphics skills are zero, so I'm dabbling a bit with these.

Critiques and tips are MOST welcome - these are my first watercolours in ages.
Seriously, I haven't touched the shit since Elementary, which is bloody well over 20 years.. :D

*****
I've always had deep fascination with vintage Italian cars, especially Alfa Romeos. Astounding design, raw power, incredible elegance and spirit embodied in those cars and packed within a vibrant "rosso corsa" shade of red visual masterpiece is something unparalleled in my book.
Ever since I was a kid, I've had a dream of one day owning a gorgeous '66 Alfa Romeo Spider , and when it finally happens it will mark the achievement of one lifelong goal!

This baby above, however, could easily take Spider's place, if it wasn't for one little detail - only 18 were ever built, which makes it one of the rarest production cars in history, plus only 8 are known to still exist over 40 years later .......so you can imagine the asking price for one of these beauties nowadays must be astronomical.

Anyways:
1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale

Powered by a race-bred 2.0L V8, designed by Franco Scaglione in company's attempt to implement Alfa's racing technology achievements into a road-legal vehicle. First-ever car to feature butterfly doors.

....and THE single most BEAUTIFUL thing on 4 wheels EVER built. Period.
Serously, this mediocre picture of mine doesn't do it justice, go watch some Youtube videos, photos and shit, and feast your eyes.

So deliciously curvaceous, drooling-ly voluptuous, amazingly powerful and infinitely desirable......this car is pure wet SEX!

Ooh, Aurelia is beautiful, especially that convertible!!
...and I totally get what you mean about Cadillacs and such, but I gotta say small, sleek and elegant sports-cars are more pleasing to me eye
...like this Alfa above (ABSOLUTE champion), '64 Porsche 904 ([link] and [link] , probably the most elegant German car EVER), '62 Lotus Elan ([link] ), and such...

1.st gen. Alfa Spider will be mine one day
Also, Lancia Stratos (Stradale, HF wasn't street-legal) would be a welcome member of the motor pool as well :D

Not perfect by any means, I'm a total newbie in this technique, but what can I do...I love this car so much

Thanks for favin', pal....this pic really doesn't do the car justice, it's infinitely more sexier on photos and videos..take a look at [link] , for example, some gorgeous photos there...:horny:

Interestingly enough, that Porsche 904 below is also one of my all-time tops, can't believe they have both of these on the same page, heh :)

Thanks!

I did have a photo to look at, which greatly diminishes the 'creativity' in this.....but I'm quite happy with how it came out, considering it's a first attempt with watercolours in such a long time :)

Neat stuff, sir!

The only remark I'd offer is that it might look better with a bit more surrounding environment to 'ground' it - but that piffling little point aside, this is bloody awesome stuff! Love all the fine detailing, like the wheel trims and headlight details.

Front wheel's fine, perhaps my favorite part. The rear one, on the other hand, is an utter disaster.
The technique is quite unforgiving, so that's it, I guess....no 'undo'. But I think it's okay for a first attempt after 20+ years :)

...and I know what you mean with the surroundings.....that was the idea with this green stuff I started adding after the car was finished, but I ran out of patience very soon, coz the car took hours.
Even sex becomes dull when it lasts for too long :D

Oh, I hear that...

To be honest, I actually think the odd little mistake or imperfection here and there keeps art interestimng. Sure, flawless renderings are all very nice, but sometimes I like to see signs in art that it was created by a flawed, imprecise hand.

I may be in a minority with this, but such things really appeal to me. If everything looked absolutely perfect, I'd be thinking 'I might as well have looked at a photograph instead'.

Seriously, fella - thumbs up!

je, nakon JAKO dugo vremena, od osnovne skole...i trajalo je, bogme! :phew:

Dobro zboris, hamer sasvim zadovoljavajuce podnosi vodene i ne upija ludjacki ko oni "risachi blok" papiri....Hvala na savjetima! :)

...i reci mi, kojim smjerom preporucujes sjencanje/gradacije?

Možeš ispat is štosa al zaboravit ne. :)

Što se gradacije tiće: to zavisi. Koristim oba slučaja (iako ovaj od svjetlijeg ka tamnijem nešto češće), zavisi kak mi dođe.

A kadgad nanesem jednu plohu boje pa onda dodajem bijelu boju u nijansama sve mi to zavisi od slike do slike. :)

Kul, hvala....i jos jedno pitanje:
Mijesanje boja - to radis odmah na bojama tako da muljas jednu u drugu, ili dodajes ciste slojeve jedne preko drugog na papiru?
:D

Uglavnom je ovo drugo: zanči prvo pričekam da se prva boja malo osuši a onda dodam drugu boju.
Boje mješam odmah kada trebam napravit neki šareni efekt tipa neke čudne energije, kozmičke nebule, zavjezdana neba, olujni oblaci, itd... :)

Ah, tako znaci!
Ceka me cijeli petak popodne i subota mazanja vodenima (pod uvjetom da zavrsim tush prije tog, skeniram i isprintam na hamer), pa bolje da malo ispitam di kako i sta s bojama prije nego bude kasno :D

Tenks!
